We have a double sink in the kitchen. I only use one side of the sink, the one with the disposal. It doesn’t make sense to me to rinse the dishes on the other side and catch the gunk in the drain cover and then have to empty it out. It seems like an unnecessary second step. I am pretty busy taking care of the babies so I try to simplify. Apparently, I really neglect the second sink. I did a double take when I saw something peeking out of the drain from the corner of my eye. Upon closer inspection, I realized a seedling had sprouted and was growing up around the drain cover! I could barely believe my eyes. Greg was pretty surprised too when I showed him.
I was amazed by the miracle of life that could grow up through a drain from a fallen seed. Greg asked me if I wanted him to throw it out. “Throw it out,” I exclaimed, “No!” So, he placed it in a cup of water for the night and the next morning the seedling, which had an impressive array of roots perked up in the cup.
I gathered some recycled soil and moisture beads and made a new home for the seedling. I cannot wait to find out what kind of plant it becomes.

That's hilarious! So have you started using your right sink more now?

Hi Nina.
I have to admit I am much more aware of the right sink now. I have begun to use it a little bit and I lift the drain cover to see if any more plants are waiting to come up…so far, no. It was a pretty strange thing, probably once in a lifetime.

I just found a baby strawberry plant growing in our second sink! I'm so glad I'm not alone in this experience.
