Welcome to Artsy Play Wednesday on Capri + 3 where each week creative blogs add links to their arts, crafts and play posts so that we can be inspired to try fun new things with the children in our lives. I will get things started with an activity I did with the babies this week and then please add your links. The babies are turning two and are having an Elmo themed party. I was shopping for supplies at a local dollar store when I saw a red dust mop. It looked like Elmo to me, so I bought it and transformed it when I got home. The babies immediately recognized ‘Elmo’ and have had a blast playing with their new puppet.
Dust Mop Puppet:
You will need:
Large Google Eyes
Felt (Cut into the shape of a mouth)
Large Pom Pom
Embellishing Glue (I used ‘Jewel It’ brand which is used to glue jewels onto clothing and is durable)
Needle and Coordinating Thread for Pom Pom
You can do this for your younger children, as I did, or older children can do it. Sew the pom pom nose onto the dust mop. This makes it more durable and less likely to come off if your child pulls the nose. Then, glue on the google eyes and mouth and dry over night. You can try any combination of colors of dust mops and pom poms to make a cast of characters. It is an easy, inexpensive project that will lead to hours of creative play.
Capri immediately bonded with ‘Elmo’
and expressed wonderment as she played with him.
Now it is your turn. Please feel free to add as many direct links as you would like to your arts crafts and play posts (so that everyone can find them later). I look forward to seeing all of your creative ideas. It would be great if you would add the Artsy Play Wednesday button to your linked posts (or a text link) so that your readers can come over and join in the fun. Please feel free to pin any of the posts that you like or you can always pin Artsy Play Wednesday so that you will have access to all of the creative ideas at once when you have more time. As always, your comments are welcome. It is time to inspire and be inspired. Enjoy.
