- Cotton balls
- White glue
- Scissors
- Stapler
- White paper, poster board or cardstock
- Free Snowman template (or draw your own)
- Black felt cut into hat shape (use template to cut it out)
- Black pom poms for buttons (or use actual buttons, black beans, coffee beans etc.)
- Google eyes
- Orange pipe cleaner cut into ‘carrot’ nose (or use orange felt, paper, or a nose drawn with an orange pen)
- Brown pipe cleaner shaped into arms
- Red felt cut into mouth shape
- Red felt for backing (or use paper, or skip the backing)
Trace and cut out the snowman template onto white card stock (or print it directly onto card stock and cut it out). Older children can cut it out or you can do this, as I did, for younger children. Attach the snowman’s arms with a stapler (or have your older children do this). Have your children pull the cotton balls until they are fluffy. With a paper underneath the snowman to protect your table, add glue to the entire snowman and have the children place the pulled cotton onto the snowman including the hat area. Add glue to the cotton on the hat area and have your child glue the hat on. This way, the hat is at the same level as the snowman’s head. Add glue and have your children attach the face and buttons. Younger children can pat the features in place with their fingers if they do not yet have the motor coordination to place them. Place the finished snowman on a contrasting felt or paper background if desired. The snowman can also be attached to a plain gift bag to make it festive.
