While I was looking around on an online forum, I came across a discussion about feeding frozen peas to toddlers. There were many toddlers who enjoyed frozen peas and would not eat them any other way. I was intrigued. It never would have occurred to me to give the babies uncooked frozen peas. Grayson has been getting picky lately and does not like things that squish in his mouth, like peas, oranges or berries. It was worth a try.
You can see the ice crystals clinging to the peas.
First, I tried the petite frozen peas. I figured that I cannot expect them to eat them if I wonβt. They were not bad. I imagine they might even be refreshing on a hot summer day. There was a pleasant cold sensation followed by a tiny burst of sweetness. Then, I decided to go for the gusto and try them on our pickiest eater. Grayson made a face when he first popped a pea into his mouth and then, to my astonishment, he smiled. My pickiest eater liked frozen peas!
Grayson’s first impression of frozen peas
I was so excited to see that expression followed by this one!
Xayden and Ryder were unsure at first and then embraced the frozen peas. Capri thought frozen peas were the bee’s knees right from the start. It is amazing the things you can learn from other parents. This experiment was a veggie success story. We will definitely be revisiting frozen peas in our future menus. I will sneak them in now and then to keep the novelty effect that makes frozen fun.
Capri happily popped the first pea into her mouth.
She enjoyed the frozen sensation.
Ryder contemplated the pea.
He decided that frozen peas were funny.
Xayden seemed dismayed at first.
But, he grew to enjoy the frozen peas.
I am all about learning from other parents. Please share your feeding success stories and recipes. If you have a link to something youβve tried (or want to try), feel free to include it. As always, comments are welcome.

Those babies are TOO cute! π Love each progression with their expressions changing! π
Thank you Rebekah. It's good to hear from you. It was exciting for me that they liked the peas.

What a great idea! Did you just use a bag of frozen peas or did you freeze some fresh ones? I do have several cans of peas in my cupboard but my boys typically don't want to eat them, I might have to try freezing them? Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a nice comment!

by the way~your family is BEAUTIFUL and I LOVE their names!
Your kids are so darling! We love frozen peas! In fact, they just had them last night and my daughter is 3.5 years old and still likes them! Another thing you might try is Tofu…I'm not sure if you've had it before…I'm not a big fan, but if you roll it in graham cracker crumbs, my kids LOVE it! It's a great meal to put together fast since it doesn't need to be heated or anything. Just slice it and dip it in crumbs and you're set!!
Hi Robyn. You have a great blog. I really enjoyed it. I used frozen peas, but I imagine you could freeze them yourself. The frozen petite peas in a bag were so easy because I just took out what I needed and popped the rest back in the freezer.

Hi Mommy with Selective Memory.
Thank you. I will have to try the tofu idea. They have eaten tofu and have had mixed reactions. I have been looking for ways to dress it up. Thank you for the idea!

I so enjoy your blog! Thanks for sharing your story and tips! We tried frozen peas but my pickier eater didn't like them π We keep trying. One thing that we started when he was about 4 months old was using those mesh teething feeders – they are AWESOME! I would put frozen or just fresh fruit in it – watermelon, peaches, apple, pears – and he loved the sensation since he was teething and was getting some good, natural fruit juices too! The one fruit that was a MESS that ruined one of the mesh bags was banana – it just doesn't clean out well.
Hi Bruffey Family. I have not tried the mesh bags in a long time. I tried prunes once and it was quite a mess! I never thought about trying something frozen. Thanks to you, I will pull those out and try your advice! I appreciate your tips. Thank you.

Have you tried frozen grapes? I know it's not a veggie but it's another idea for summer. That's the only way syd would eat grapes in the beginning. I have to try the frozen peas, since syd doesn't like cooked ones. Love your blog. Even though syd is 5 1/2 I am learning new things. It's always nice to hear mom stories.
Hi Mary. Thank you. I can try frozen grapes cut up in small pieces. They would probably love those. Thanks for the idea. I remember eating frozen grapes and frozen bananas growing up. Occasionally my Mom would dip the bananas in chocolate before freezing.

shoot, i might have to try that on my four year olds! they are very anti-vegetable. sigh. π
Hi Pam. That would be funny if it won your four year-olds over. Perhaps they would like a pea sorbet for St. Patrick's Day… ; ).

Both my kids love frozen fruit, but once when my son was two he choked on frozen mango. I knew it was likely to happen, and had told my husband to cut the mango into small bits, but one morning when our son was demanding mango NOW NOW NOW, my husband just handed over a regular size chunk. He couldn't breathe for what felt like minutes but was probably just one minute-ish. That was the worst experience of my whole life.
Hi 'downwardlashes.'
That is very scary! I am glad he was OK. I think every parent worries about choking. Thank you for sharing your story. I think it is helpful to be reminded to cut things up very small, because families are so busy and kids do want everything right now. I looked at your profile picture. Your kids are adorable. Please keep up the comments. I'd love to hear your stories.
