Grandparent interviews are a great way for children to learn more about their heritage and identify with their grandparents. The interview I developed has a FREE PRINTABLE designed for Pre-K through the second grade. If children are older, more detailed questions could be added.
Grandparent Interviews-Help Kids Learn More About Their Heritage
You will need:
- FREE PRINTABLE interview sheet (one for each grandparent of the child)
Print out one interview per grandparent. If you are in a classroom setting, you may want to print out four per child so they can use what is relevant for them. Have the children team up with their parents to ask their grandparents the questions or have their grandparents fill it out. Have children talk with their grandparents in person, on the phone, Skype or mail to discuss their answers and find out what they have in common. Our kids found out that Grandpa wanted to be Tarzan when he grew up. Instead, he became a professor. It may be interesting for kids to compare their own answers as to what they want to be when they grow up, what their favorite ice cream flavor is etc. with the answers of their grandparents. If a child does not have grandparents, the interview can be switched to another relative or family friend.
