We enjoy dressing the kids up for Halloween. The first year, we dressed them all as ducks. The second year, they were raccoons. Last year, they were Little Bo Peep and her three sheep. We extended the Bo Peep theme into their third birthday party last year. This year, we dressed them as the ‘Hey Diddle, Diddle’ nursery rhyme. A while back, I saw a post on a costume for the dish who ran away with the spoon. I was inspired by that post to make Grayson’s costume. I would love to give credit and a link to that post but have been unable to find it! If it is you, please share your link in the comments and I will add it to this post. I bought the dog costume for Xayden and made the rest. I made Capri’s cat costume from a pattern which I adapted and created Ryder’s pattern for the cow that jumped over the moon. I scoured the internet for a moon costume pattern and could not find one. Greg helped a lot with Grayson’s mask by drilling holes and figuring out that the holes worked perfectly inside the mustache. This allowed us to use Google eyes instead of having him look out of eye holes in the plate. I adapted this free hood pattern from Fleece Fun for Grayson’s hood.
We happily did another photo shoot with Mia of Mia Z photography. All photos in this post are taken by Mia, who is a fantastic photographer and a mother of twins. She is so relaxed and easy going. We appreciate her very much. If you are in the Los Angeles area (or visiting), I would highly recommend doing a photo shoot with Mia. She is great at capturing memories while putting children at ease.
What costumes did your children wear this year? Did you make or buy the costumes? I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to share in the comments!

Wow! The costumes are fabulous but the best part is the personalities of your children that shines through in the photos.
Theresa says
Thank you Shelah.
I love doing photo shoots because they change so quickly. I want to capture as much as I can of their childhoods.

These are great pics!!! The kids look super happy. My little pirate girl had a complete melt down!
Theresa says
Hi Christine.
Picturing your pirate girl having a meltdown makes me smile. I'm sure it wasn't cute at the time, but it is a sweet thing to look back on! Our little ones love dressing up.

So cute! And what a perfect idea for Halloween costumes!
Mrs FF says
Absolutely gorgeous!!! And yes photoshoots are key. I plan to get one professional one done at least once a year aside from the "million" pictures I take myself. These babies change so fast and they are growing up.
Mrs FF says
Ps: Halloween is not popular in our part of the world so we didn't get to dress up 🙁
Theresa says
Thank you Nicci!

Hi Mrs. FF.
I agree with you that it is wonderful to be able to do professional photo shoots outside of the photos we take as parents. It is such a wonderful way to capture their childhoods. Are there any occasions for dress-up where you live?
