Rainy day activities are usually thought of as things kids can do indoors. There are games, arts and crafts and cooking activities. I have found that what our kids like to do best is get out in the rain and explore the magic of nature. Since California has been in a drought for a long time, rain is a novelty. The gutters turn into rushing rivers and the sidewalks are aglow with reflections in shimmering puddles. I don’t relish driving in the rain, but I love walking in the rain, especially with our kids.
During an especially rainy day, the kids, the dogs and I went on a walk. they splashed in puddles, sang and danced the whole way. The dogs seemed equally enthused to explore their surroundings on this rainy day. When we returned, the rain had stopped. I had the dogs go back inside the house and I grabbed my camera and had the kids explore the water for a while longer.
Capri especially loved to stomp and dance in the rain. Her shoes were on the wrong feet and her jacket was buttoned askew, but she did it herself and had a blast.
I imagine we will spend lots of time in the rain, as long as it inspires them to dance and lights up their eyes.

We love splashing in puddles! It's so much fun! I think we are expecting some snow this weekend though, so I can't wait to get out there with my toddler.
HI Patricia.
Snow would be really novel and fun for our kids! They do not get to see it too often where we live. I imagine there are so many fun activities you could do with kids in the snow.

Splashing the puddles is the best and it burns so much energy! Looks like you had a blast! We have a lot of snow here in Minnesota. I'm over it!
Hi Jules.
Perhaps because we live in California, snow sounds really fun. But, if I had to shovel our driveway and drive in the snow, I would be over it too!
