Potty Patrol-Diaper Review and Giveaway

 *Disclosure:  We were given two sets of diaper starter kits for boys and the opportunity to give one reader a starter kit in a giveaway.  No other compensation was given.  All opinions expressed are my own.

    Potty training is something that all parents face.  We faced this daunting task times four!  We read about many different methods, some requiring one ‘potty buddy’ per child.  We simply don’t have that!  So, we tried all four at once and only two were ready.  Just as our pediatrician said, all the incentives in the world will not work if your child is not developmentally ready.  Capri and Grayson both caught on pretty quickly with simple incentives, m & m’s and stickers.  Ryder and Xayden did not make the mind body connection as to when they had to go.

     So, when Potty Patrol offered us the opportunity to try out their special potty training diapers, we jumped at the chance!  These diapers have a music box that snaps on the front of the diaper.  When a child begins to wet the diaper, a short alarm sounds followed by the tune of ‘Twinkle, twinkle, little star’ so the child recognizes that it is time to use the potty. Once the alarm has sounded, you remove the diaper, take off the music box and attach it to a new diaper.   I put the special Potty Patrol Diapers on Ryder and Xayden and waited in anticipation for the alarm to sound.  I also told them what would happen so they knew to make a beeline for the potty as soon as they heard the alarm. 

     We went on about our morning.  Xayden was the first one to set off his alarm.  He headed straight for the potty and announced, “my music’s playing!”  He was successful in using the potty without continuing to wet his diaper.  Later on, the ear splitting sound of our fire alarm filled the house with high pitched shrieks.  Ryder, mistaking this for his Potty Patrol diaper ran to the potty with wide eyes and stated, “my alarm is going off.  I had better go potty!”  Ironically, he had success.  We had issues with our fire alarm the entire day until I contracted an electrician who fixed the problem.  Xayden knew the difference between the sounds but Ryder was so scared of setting off the (fire) alarm that he ran to the potty each time the fire alarm sounded or  his diaper sounded!  That was the most success he had ever had using the potty!  Xayden also had a successful day. 

     If you are working on teaching your children to recognize when they need to urinate, this is a great product to get them familiar with the feeling.  It also teaches them to act right away before having an accident.  I found that, for the most part, our boys know when they need to go ‘poo’ and choose to do that in their diaper, often hiding behind the couch. We went through that with Capri and Grayson too and they eventually got past it.   The Potty Patrol Diapers are more effective for teaching kids how to use the potty for urination. 

     Overall, I really like the Potty Patrol diapers and they helped Ryder and Xayden make the mind body connection signaling that they need to use the restroom.  The one change I’d recommend to the company would be to offer a pull-up style rather than a diaper style. That would allow for children to put it on independently and it would be easier to pull down when they needed to use the toilet.  That being said, neither Ryder nor Xayden had a problem getting the diaper down when they went to the potty.
