I am so excited to be here today! My name is Angela and I am a former teacher, turned stay-at-home mom to 2 (almost 3!) boys. I share hands-on learning activities over on my blog at teachingmama.org. You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Summer is just around the corner and my kids are itching to be outside all day long! One thing we love to do is blow bubbles. The boys got several bubble solutions from the store lately, but we were sorely disappointed that they were not able to blow any good bubbles with them! It was frustrating. I decided to try making our own bubble solutions to see if they were better. We made 5 different recipes and tested all of them out to see which ones worked the best.
I am happy to report that all the recipes worked! We did have a couple favorites that worked better than the rest, but I will share that at the end. Here are the recipes we used:
Recipe #1
- 1 cup water
- 1 1/3 cup dish soap
- 1/6 cup honey
Recipe #2
- 1/3 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup dish soap
Recipe #3
- 1 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup dish soap
*Microwave the first two ingredients for 2 minutes. Then add the soap.
Recipe #4
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup dish soap
- 2 tsp. sugar
Recipe #5
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup dish soap
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 Tablespoon baking powder
So here came the real test…I gave my boys bubble wands and they tried out all 5 bubble solutions.
They had an absolute BLAST trying all 5 of the recipes. They were thrilled that they could actually blow lots of bubbles with these bubble solutions.
Like I mentioned earlier, all 5 recipes worked. Our favorite recipes were #3 and #4. They consistently blew the best bubbles. #5 was our least favorite recipe.
So here is my advice…Don’t waste time and money with the bubble solutions you can find at the store. Try these recipes to save money and make better bubbles! Trust me, your kids will love it!

What type of dishsoap did you use?

Hi! I am the one who wrote this post 🙂
I actually used Dial hand soap because I ran out of dishsoap. It worked great! I have also used Dawn dishsoap and it worked well. Hope that helps!

Great article. I was surprised none of these recipes had glycerin though. This seems to be a staple in most other bubble recipes.

It is nice to see so many recipes without glycerin as it is not something most people have on hand. : 0 )
