I thought coloring eggs would have to wait another year until I saw a post suggesting that toddlers could dye eggs using a whisk. What a brilliant idea! I could not wait to try it. First, I fished out our two whisks and made sure the eggs fit inside. Then, I hard boiled the eggs with a nice little machine that cooks six at at time. It has an incredibly loud buzzer that makes it impossible to forget the eggs. After the eggs were done, I chilled them over night. We used a store bought egg dyeing kit and worked with the babies one at a time. Grandma, who is visiting, helped with this project.
After covering the table with a kitchen bag and preparing the dyes, we were ready. Grayson was first. We put his kitchen bag on over his shirt and began. He chose his color and we set it in front of him with an egg in a whisk. Crash! He immediately knocked the egg dye over and it spewed all over him, the table and the floor. We cleaned it up and went for his second color choice. Grandma was ready to prevent disaster, but Grayson was too quick. After he dipped his egg a couple of times… crash. This time, we caught it before it all spilled. He managed to get dye on his shirt underneath his smock. Lesson learned. We removed the rest of the babies’ clothes and they wore only diapers and smocks. We also put the egg dye cup in a large bowl to prevent tipping and to catch it if it began to spill.
Great idea with the whisk and covering them with plastic bags
