As the weather gets cooler, we love to enjoy warm drinks and soups. Our kids are especially fond of hot cocoa. When I researched recipes online, most of them contain about three tablespoons of white sugar. That is enough to to have them bouncing off the walls! Most also contain half and half or whole milk. I decided to experiment with recipes that were still sweet but did not have as much sugar or fat. This recipe is super easy and a little healthier than the average homemade cocoa using reduced fat milk and honey.
Easy Honey Hot Cocoa (recipe is per cup of cocoa)
1 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 Tablespoon honey
1/4 teaspoon real vanilla extract
1 Cup of reduced fat milk (or your favorite milk)
Add one tablespoon of cocoa to each mug. Heat milk (adjusted to one cup per person) on the stove or in the microwave until hot, not boiling. Add the honey to the milk (one Tablespoon per cup) and stir until dissolved. Then, add the vanilla (1/4 Teaspoon per cup) and stir. Pour the sweetened milk into the mugs with the cocoa powder and stir until the powder is dissolved and Enjoy!
