The babies just turned two and we had an Elmo themed party for them. I ‘Elmofied’ our house and sent out homemade Elmo party invitations. Perhaps you can use my ideas if you have an Elmo theme party for your children. If you have another theme, you could take the same idea and turn it into a different character. I used the same Elmos to make Fedoras for the boys and a headband for Capri.

-
Google eyes
-
Orange pom pom for nose
-
Sparkle pom pom (I used lavender) for hat

-
Embellishing Glue (I used Jewel-It)
-
Glitter Card stock (I used matstack brand which comes in a ‘book’ of 42 sheets) 6.5″ x 4.5″
-
Card stock for body of invitation (I used blue)
-
Glue or scrapbooking adhesive to attach body of invitation onto the glitter card stock
-
envelopes which fit the invitations
-
Small hole Punch
-
Scissors (with fancy edge if desired)
-
Thin red satin ribbon
-
Grommets can be used if desired
-
Cookie cutter or other circle shape to trace Elmo
-
Fedora hat (if you wish to make a hat)
-
Red headband (if you wish to make a headband)
Trace circle shape onto the back of the red fur and cut out. Cut red satin ribbon to about four to five inches and sew onto back of the red circle with red thread (either by hand or by machine). Cut an Elmo smile out of black felt. Position orange pom pom nose, google eyes and black felt smile onto the front of the red circle (to see where you would like his face to be). Then, sew the smile onto the front of the face using black thread. Sew the orange pom pom on the front by hand using red thread. You can actually sew all the way through the pom pom in small stitches and the thread will not show in the front. Cut out a triangle from the patterned felt to make a hat. Hand sew the sparkle pom pom onto the hat using white thread. Also using white thread, sew the hat onto Elmo’s head. Attach the google eyes using the embellishing glue and let dry overnight.
Then, type the body of your invitation “Elmo Invites You…” for the front and the main part of the invitation for the back. The main part can continue “to a party for his special friend (child’s name) with Date, Time, Address and what will be served as well as RSVP information. Cut out the Elmo Invites You… and the body of the invitation with fancy edge scissors to fit the invitation. Attach the body of the invitation to the back and the “Elmo Invites You…” to the bottom of the front (glitter side) of the card stock. Punch two holes through the body of the invitation (so that Elmo will be where you want him to be when you thread the ribbons through). Add grommets if desired. Add Elmo to the front of the card by threading the ribbon through the holes and tying the ribbon into a bow on the back (body of the invitation). You could use more glue than sewing to save time, though it is safer to sew it if you are sending it through the mail so that Elmo does not arrive in pieces. If you are mailing your invitations, they need to be hand canceled and require more postage. Ours cost between $1.50 and $2.00 each to mail. I suggest taking them to the Post Office so you know that the postage is individually applied.
