Teaching kids to read is exciting but it can also be overwhelming trying to fit in times to practice, especially when you have more than one child. As a way to ensure that our kids got their reading practice time with me, I created the Reading Power Ticket. I am sharing this with you as a free printable. You can use it with your kids who are learning to read or with your little ones who simply love it when you read to them.
How to use the Reading Power Ticket:
-
-
-
- Print the FREE PRINTABLE READING POWER TICKET onto paper or card stock. Laminate if desired. Use a hole punch at the top and add a ribbon or string. Hang it up in a place easy for your kids to reach.
- Establish simple rules for use. My rules were that it could not be used when I was on the phone, doing an activity with a sibling, at bed time or when I was cooking. Other than that, it was available.
- Explain to your kids that, whenever they want to read with you (within the rules), they can bring you the Reading Power Ticket and you will drop what you are doing and sit down and read with them. This is an empowering way for them to practice their reading. Our kids love that reading is so important that I will stop what I am doing to share it with them.
